Do I need a primary key linking my database to Attio?

Writes can match on any identity capable attribute, so an email address on people or a domain on companies is usually enough, and companies and people get dedicated domain and email handling. You can also match on a unique custom attribute if you already carry your own identifier in Attio. Matching on a non unique field is possible but risky, since it updates every record that matches.

Any object your workspace exposes as writable, including custom objects, plus list entries. Modes are create, update, and create or update. Deletes are not supported, so records are added and maintained rather than removed. Relationships can be set by pointing at a related record's unique field rather than its Attio identifier, and where a model column holds an array of company identifiers, the record is associated with every valid one rather than only the first.

How do Attio attributes land in Postgres?

Compound attributes arrive in JSON columns if you select the structured parent, which you can query with Postgres JSON operators. Each one also generates flat subfields, so a personal name is available as separate first name, last name and full name columns. That tends to be the better choice for a database backing an internal tool, since it avoids decoding on every query. Record identifiers are UUID strings, and an empty single value arrives as null.
