Does filtering the model reduce the read cost?

Accepted Answer

No, and this catches people out repeatedly. DynamoDB applies a filter after reading the items, so a scan with a filter consumes the same read capacity as a scan without one. If you want to read less, use a key based query or select an index. Narrowing the filter changes the rows you get back, not the capacity you spend getting them.

What does a sync actually consume?

Read capacity units, on every execution. There is no tracking field on model syncs, so nothing reads forward from a cursor. Plan capacity around how often the sync runs, how many items it touches and their size, and whether you have asked for strongly consistent reads, which cost more than the default eventually consistent ones.

Can I cap how much it reads?

Not in Polytomic. The connector exposes no read capacity ceiling, request rate setting or connector specific throttle. It uses the standard AWS client, so AWS side throttling and retry behaviour applies, but the levers you actually control are model shape and schedule rather than a configurable limit.

Which Salesforce objects accept writes from an item?

Accepted Answer

Any standard or custom sObject that Salesforce reports as createable or updateable for the connected user. Delete mode appears where the object is deletable. Read only objects and Tooling API objects are not available as destinations.

How is a Salesforce relationship set?

Accepted Answer

Through the synthetic find by fields Polytomic exposes. It resolves the related record from an ID or External ID value and sets the relationship. By default an unmatched relationship fails the row and logs it, and advanced settings let you write without the relationship or drop the row quietly instead.
