Whether someone is on a trial, what they pay annually and which plan they are on all change how a conversation should be handled, and none of it lives in the support tool by default. Plain happens to model this well: contract value and tier are real fields on a company rather than free text, so reverse ETL from billing puts the number where it influences behaviour.

Which Plain fields can billing data populate?

Companies accept name, domain, contract value, account owner and tier, which covers most of what billing data is useful for. Tenants accept name, external identifier, URL, tier and custom field values, and new tenant custom fields can be created by the sync if you want something more specific such as trial end date or seat count. Customers accept an external identifier, name, email and email verification status. Nothing else in Plain is writable.

How do the two systems agree on who is who?

By matching on values you already have rather than on Plain's own identifiers. Companies upsert on domain name or Plain's company identifier, and customers upsert on email address or an external identifier, which can hold the billing system's customer identifier. That is the more durable arrangement, because a new billing record can flow into Plain and create the company or customer on first sight rather than failing to resolve.

Can support volume be analysed against revenue?

Yes, though it is a separate flow rather than the same sync running backwards. Reading from Plain gives you threads, messages and prebuilt reports including SLA compliance by label and daily thread counts by priority. Landing those next to billing data through ETL is what lets you answer the questions that matter, such as which plan generates the most support load per unit of revenue, or whether escalations cluster before a renewal.
