Why is this pairing unusually expensive?

Because both ends charge for width. DynamoDB consumes read capacity for every item the model resolves, with no tracking field available to narrow it. Affinity then writes custom and list values as individual field value requests rather than one call per record. A wide model therefore costs you twice: once in read capacity and again in write calls.

What actually reduces the cost?

Narrowing the model, on both counts. A table select against a secondary index, or a key based query, reads far less than a scan. Mapping only the fields Affinity genuinely needs cuts the field value calls. A filter alone does not help on the DynamoDB side, because items are read before the filter is applied to them.

Which Affinity objects accept writes from an item?

Accepted Answer

People, organizations, notes, and person, organization and opportunity lists. Opportunities are written through an opportunity list rather than directly. People, organizations and opportunities support create, update and upsert, and notes are create only.

Could a run exhaust our Affinity allowance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Affinity enforces user level and organization level monthly quotas, and an exhausted monthly quota stops the sync outright rather than slowing it down. Polytomic already throttles to twenty five record jobs, at most ten concurrently, at seven hundred and fifty requests a minute.

Can I cap the DynamoDB read side?

Accepted Answer

Not through Polytomic. The connector exposes no read capacity ceiling or throttle of its own, so schedule and model shape are the only levers you have on that half of the cost.
