How do I sync Redshift to Google Sheets?

Can I use my existing Redshift SQL as the model?

Yes, and it is the usual way people start. A model can be a table selection or a custom query, so an analyst who already has a query they trust can paste it in rather than rebuilding the logic in a new interface. The query is wrapped and run against the cluster as a normal SELECT. If the query is expensive, remember it runs on every scheduled sync, so it is worth looking at what it scans before setting an aggressive schedule.

What Redshift permissions does a read only sync need?

Less than a write sync, which is the point of using a separate user. The connected user needs USAGE on each schema the model touches and SELECT on the tables or views it queries. No S3 permissions are required for an ordinary model sync, because the bucket is only used for destination writes. On Redshift Serverless the IAM identity also has to be mapped to a database role carrying those same grants, since IAM permissions on their own do not replace USAGE and SELECT.

What is the row limit when syncing into a spreadsheet?

It is really a cell limit. Google caps a spreadsheet at 10 million cells, so capacity works out as 10 million divided by the number of columns you write, which puts a twenty column model at roughly 500,000 rows. Individual cells are cut off at 50,000 characters. If a model is anywhere near either number it is usually a sign the sheet should hold an aggregate rather than the raw rows, with the detail staying in the cluster.

Because an export is correct once and then quietly rots.
