How is document identity handled?

The _id field is available as the unique identity. On insert, an _id you mapped is written, and if you did not map one MongoDB generates it. On update Polytomic looks up and filters by the existing _id. Because _id is immutable, a serialized ObjectID value is converted back to a BSON ObjectID and removed from the update itself, so a write never tries to rewrite it.

Should I map Salesforce IDs to _id?

Accepted Answer

It is a reasonable choice when the collection exists to mirror Salesforce, since it gives you a natural unique key and makes reruns idempotent. If the collection holds your own application data being enriched, keep your existing _id and match on a Salesforce ID stored in an ordinary field instead. Deciding this early saves a painful migration later.

How does the read from Salesforce work?

The first ETL run reads everything selected. After that Polytomic checkpoints on SystemModstamp, or CreatedDate for history objects, with a ten minute lookback to absorb eventual consistency. Objects without a usable unique identifier and change timestamp fall back to a full read on every run.

Will this consume our Salesforce API budget?

It draws on it, and Polytomic caps itself so a sync cannot exhaust the allowance. Calls are tracked over a rolling twenty four hours, shown per sync, and paused once a cap is reached, defaulting to seventy five percent of what your org reports.

What write modes are available?

Accepted Answer

Create, Update, and Update or Create. There is no Replace and no Remove, so a MongoDB destination never truncates a collection or deletes documents, whatever happens on the Salesforce side. Records deleted in Salesforce leave their documents in place.
