Which Affinity objects can a MongoDB model write to?

People, organizations, notes, and person, organization and opportunity lists. Opportunities are written through an opportunity list rather than directly. People, organizations and opportunities support create, update and upsert. Notes are create only, so they append and never update.

Why does the model shape matter so much here?

Accepted Answer

Because Affinity writes custom and list values as individual field value requests rather than one call per record. A pipeline that resolves everything down to a narrow row costs far fewer calls than a wide model carrying fields nobody needs. Polytomic already throttles to twenty five record jobs, ten concurrently, at seven hundred and fifty requests a minute, but the model shape decides how much work there is to throttle in the first place.

Can a scheduled sync burn through our Affinity allowance?

Yes. Affinity enforces user level and organization level monthly quotas, and an exhausted monthly quota stops the sync outright rather than merely slowing it down. Worth checking before you commit to a frequent schedule if the model writes many custom fields.

What identifies a person or organization in Affinity?

Accepted Answer

People on Affinity person ID or email address. Organizations on organization ID, exact name or domain, and where your source holds an array of domains you can match all of them or just the first. Opportunities on opportunity ID or exact name. Notes have no identity, because they only ever append.

Question 5

Can I use a tracking field to keep runs small?

Accepted Answer

Only if the model is a plain collection field select. Tracking fields are not supported on find query, aggregation pipeline or view models. So the pipeline approach that helps most with Affinity's API cost also means every run reads the collection in full. That is a real trade off, and it is better made deliberately than discovered later.
