What can I write from Snowflake into Intercom?

Leads, users and companies. Those are the three writable objects. Plenty of other Intercom data is available to read, including contacts, tags, conversations, admins, teams and tickets, but those are source only, so you can pull them into your data warehouse and not push to them. For most teams the writable set is the useful one anyway, since it covers the attributes an agent sees when a conversation opens.

Can I link a user to a company when syncing to Intercom?

Yes. Leads and users can be associated with a company as part of the same sync, so a person row in your model can carry the identifier of the account they belong to and end up correctly attached in Intercom. That matters more than it sounds, because company level context, like plan tier or renewal date, is often what an agent actually needs when someone writes in.

What happens if someone in my model is not in Intercom yet?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the mode. Update or create makes them, update only skips them, and create only makes the new ones while leaving existing matches alone. Which you want depends on whether Intercom or your data warehouse should introduce new people. If Intercom is fed by your product already, update only is often the safer choice, because it avoids creating duplicate records from rows that have not been through your normal signup path.

How often does Polytomic re-read the Snowflake model?

As often as you schedule it, but it does not resend everything each time. Model syncs are differential by default, so Polytomic runs the query, works out which rows are new or changed, and only sends those. You can also set a tracking field, usually an updated at column that always moves when a row changes, and after the first read later queries start from the saved position, which keeps Snowflake compute down.

Why use reverse ETL to push data into Intercom?

Because support quality depends on context, and the context lives somewhere else. Whether an account is on a trial, how much they use the product, whether their renewal is close, all of that is modelled in your data warehouse from several systems. Reverse ETL puts it on the Intercom record so it is there when a conversation starts, instead of an agent looking things up in another tab while the customer waits.
