CloudWatch Metrics

Polytomic connects CloudWatch Metrics to your data warehouse, databases, and other tools for ETL. Sync metrics from every namespace in your AWS account so infrastructure and application performance sits next to the rest of your data, without writing code.

Automatic metric discovery

Every namespace and metric in your AWS account is discovered automatically, including any custom metrics you publish yourself.

One table per dimension

Each metric's dimension combinations split into their own table, with average, minimum, maximum, sum, and sample count included.

Late revisions caught

Incremental syncs re-read the two most recent periods, so values CloudWatch revises after the fact are not missed.

Example workflows

Track infrastructure cost and utilization next to the rest of your data

What you can sync

CloudWatch Metrics is supported as a source. Read namespace, metric, and dimension data into your data warehouse, databases, or other connected tools.

Average, minimum, maximum, sum, and sample count
5-minute, hourly, and daily aggregation periods
Historical data within CloudWatch's retention window

How it works

Connect with an AWS access key and secret or an IAM role. Polytomic discovers every namespace and metric in your account and splits each one by its dimension values into its own table. Average, minimum, maximum, sum, and sample count are included for every data point.

Each incremental sync re-reads the two most recent periods. CloudWatch sometimes revises a period's values after first reporting them. Re-reading catches that revision on the next sync.

  • Namespaces and metrics discovered automatically across your AWS account
  • Each metric split into its own table by dimension
  • Average, minimum, maximum, sum, and sample count for every point
  • Pick a 5-minute, hourly, or daily aggregation period
  • Incremental syncs re-read recent periods to catch late revisions
  • Metrics read only from the single AWS region you connect

How to set up

CloudWatch Metrics connects with AWS credentials you manage directly: an access key and secret, or an IAM role Polytomic can assume.

How to get connected
  1. 1In AWS, create an access key and secret, or an IAM role, with CloudWatch read access
  2. 2In Polytomic, go to Connections, click Add connection, and select CloudWatch Metrics
  3. 3Choose an authentication method, enter the AWS region and credential, then click Save
