Customer.io

Polytomic connects Customer.io with your data warehouse, databases, and SaaS tools for ETL and reverse ETL. Sync people, objects, events, and segments into Customer.io for lifecycle messaging, and read your Customer.io data back out into your warehouse, without writing code.

Mirror manual segments

Keep a manual segment exactly matching your query, adds and removes.

Custom objects and relationships

Write custom objects and link them to people with relationship attributes.

Export Customer.io data out

Read people, campaigns, and delivery metrics into your warehouse for analysis.

Example workflows

Sync people and attributes from your data warehouse into Customer.io

What you can sync

Customer.io works in both directions. Write people, objects, events, and segment membership into Customer.io, and read your Customer.io data back out into your warehouse through Customer.io's warehouse export.

From Customer.io

Data warehouses including Snowflake, BigQuery, and Databricks
Databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
SaaS tools including Salesforce, HubSpot, and Stripe
Customer.io people, campaigns, and delivery metrics via warehouse export

To Customer.io

People, created and updated
Custom objects with person relationships
Events, appended to a person's timeline
Manual segment membership, with mirror mode
Device tokens for push messaging

How it works

Build a model on your data warehouse, database, or SaaS tools and write it into Customer.io. This is reverse ETL for lifecycle messaging: the segments and attributes campaigns target on come from the systems that own them, on a schedule, instead of being loaded by hand.

Mirror mode on manual segments is the feature that makes this genuinely hands off. A normal sync only adds people, while mirror also removes anyone no longer returned by your query, so the segment stays an exact reflection of what you defined.

To read Customer.io data back out, Polytomic uses Customer.io's warehouse export: Customer.io writes your people, campaign, and delivery data to your own cloud storage, and Polytomic loads it into your warehouse incrementally. That means you can analyze messaging performance next to the rest of your data.

  • Connect with your Site ID, Track API key, and App API key to write into Customer.io
  • Region is detected automatically and routed to US or EU endpoints
  • Write people, custom objects, events, devices, and relationships
  • Mirror a manual segment so it matches your query exactly
  • Read Customer.io data back out through its warehouse export to your cloud storage
  • Monitor sync health, record volume, and failures from one interface

How to set up

Polytomic uses both Customer.io APIs to write data in. The Track API handles the actual writes and authenticates with your Site ID and Track API key. The App API handles discovery, segment listing, and creating segments or custom object types, and uses your App API key. Your account region is detected automatically. To read Customer.io data out, Polytomic connects to the cloud storage bucket that Customer.io's warehouse export writes to.

How to get connected
  1. 1In Customer.io, find your Site ID and generate a Track API key
  2. 2Generate an App API key with the permissions you need
  3. 3In Polytomic, navigate to Connections, then Add Connection, then Customer.io
  4. 4Enter the Site ID, Track API key, and App API key
  5. 5Test the connection
  6. 6Create a sync targeting people, an object, an event, or a segment
