How does Harmonic enrichment work?

Inline, per record. You map an identifier and Polytomic looks the entity up, merging the Harmonic fields you selected into the same record before it continues to its destination. For companies that identifier can be a domain, website, LinkedIn URL, Crunchbase or PitchBook URL, or a Harmonic URN; for people it is typically a LinkedIn URL, email, or URN. Company name is deliberately not an enrichment key because it is too ambiguous. Records with no match pass through unchanged rather than failing, and a Harmonic URN uses a direct fetch, which is both faster and more reliable than a lookup.

What can I read out of Harmonic?

Saved searches and lists, for both companies and people, plus investor lists on the newer API. From a company collection you can pull the companies themselves and also expand related records as their own row sets: funding rounds, the investors behind them, company highlights, associated people, person highlights, and education. That fan out is what makes it useful for analysis, since one company can produce many rounds or many people. From a people collection you get people, their highlights, and their education.

What can Polytomic write back into Harmonic?

Company and people list membership, along with list specific and global record attributes, which is the reverse ETL half of the connector. On the newer API you also get create, update, and create or update modes with per field behavior, and Polytomic can create a new list or add new list attributes for common types. The important boundary is that this adds entities to lists rather than creating new companies or people in Harmonic. If your record matches no Harmonic entity at all, the row is dropped rather than creating one. Saved searches, funding rounds, and investor lists are read only.

Does Harmonic sync incrementally?

No. Each ETL run walks the current saved search or list membership from the start and pages through it completely, so there is no persisted change cursor between executions. Downstream identity matching then decides what actually gets updated in your destination. That is less wasteful than it sounds because Harmonic's underlying data refreshes roughly daily, so an hourly or daily schedule captures everything useful. Running more frequently than that mostly consumes API calls without surfacing new data.

What is the most reliable way to match companies?

The Harmonic entity URN, without question. It is the authoritative identifier and uses a direct fetch rather than a search. Failing that, a canonical URL such as the company website or LinkedIn profile works well. Company name matching is available but goes through Harmonic's typeahead, so it is fuzzy by nature and can resolve to the wrong company or fail outright. Companies without a website are genuinely hard to match across systems, which is exactly the case where carrying the URN through your data warehouse pays off.
